EXHIBITION IMAGES | PRESS RELEASE | ARTIST PAGE
MARCH 31 – APRIL 29, 2016 | 56 HENRY STREET | NY
Halsey McKay is pleased present an installation of new sculptural photographic works by Colby Bird at 56 Henry Street. Continuing to needle perceptions of leisure and labor, Bird has taken over all aspects of production processes which are typically outsourced: photography and framing. Bird’s subject matter remains cliched activities of “the artist” (in this case, casual museum-touring, and idle wine sipping), putting his subject matter in opposition to the effort involved in creating the works.
Colby Bird (born 1978; Austin, Texas) received his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2004. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Grice Bench, Los Angeles; Fitzroy, New York; Lora Reynolds Gallery, Austin; University Galleries at Texas State University, San Marcos, and has been included in exhibitions at Aspen Art Museum, Aspen; Arthouse, Austin, and Hagedorn Foundation, Atlanta. His work is held in prominent private and public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art. Bird currently lives and works in New York.
